Compared to many other IT professionals, DBAs, on average, make more money. To find out, let's check and find out.

According to Salary.Com, as of November 2008, the average Database Administrator in the United States makes a base salary of between $61,662 and $104,876 per year, with most DBAs making between $72,167 and $94,787 per year.

In addition, if you are a Database Administration Manager, your base salary is somewhere between $79,810 and $127,524 per year, with most managers making between $92,855 and $117,830 per year.

Now, let's take a look at base salaries of developers and network administrators.

If you are a software developer with average experience, the base salary ranges between $57,471 and $83,966, with most developers making between $63,334 and $77,212 per year.

If you are a network administrator with average experience, the base salary ranges between $46,371 and $76,385, with most network administrators earning between $53,022 and $68,733 per year.

As you can see, DBAs make significantly more than developers or network administrators. Of course, the salaries above are national averages and do not reflect geographical differences, levels of experience, the size of the company you work for, your speciality, and other factors that affect how much one makes at their job. But even then, it makes you think, doesn't it?
