Get File Info

This script organizes information about the database files on the server.   A cursor is used to get the information from each database.  The information is reported in Megabytes, including the next allocation from disk.  No bells and whistles...and if I can find how dbcc showfilestats works I will add the amount of space used in […]

Scan stored procedures in all databases

I wrote this for the developers because they were always asking me to find all of their stored procedures that did X.It scans through the syscomments text in each database looking for the requested string.  User must have read access on the syscomments and sysobjects tables in each database.

Question of the Day

Using CHOOSE()

We have this code that sets some status values and then queries them using the CHOOSE() function in SQL Server 2025.

CREATE TABLE Status
(
    StatusID INT,
    StatusDescription VARCHAR(20)
);
GO
INSERT dbo.Status
(
    StatusID,
    StatusDescription
)
VALUES
(0, 'Uncategorized'),
(1, 'Active'),
(2, 'Inactive'),
(3, 'Temp');

GO
SELECT CHOOSE(StatusID, 'Unknown', 'Active', 'Inactive', 'Temporary')
FROM Status;
When the SELECT runs, what is returned?
