This stored proc has helped me a lot when I needed to restore db, reconfigure replication, and do other database jobs. SQL server KILL command can only act on a single spid. This sp compiles KILL commands in a cursor to kill a group of spids based on database name, login name, host machine name […]

Occassionally you might want to convert a binary number into some printable string. This would allow you display some meaning fully numbers hex characters, instead of just some unreadable garbage. This script takes a binary field, of basically any length, and converts it, character by character, to a character string. The character string will contain […]

This is a VBS script that will extract images from a Microsoft SQL database and create a individual file for each image. The script utilizes two important utilities: isqlw and textcopy (both standard executables that come with Microsoft SQL Server).

This procedure was created to automate the dropping of statistics on a user specified table. Very simple code, but handy if the need is there.Replace 'tablename' throughout script with the name of the table intended to temporarily house the statistics name(s).

This script will find and replace specified text within all ActiveXScript tasks with a certain text string in the description. It was designed on SQL 2000, but I think it will run on SQL 7 as it doesn't reference any SQL 2000 specific properties. It opens a package object and then loops through the steps […]

I set up a few users on my SQL Server 2022 instance.
CREATE LOGIN User1 WITH PASSWORD = 'Demo12#1' CREATE USER User1 FOR LOGIN User1 GO CREATE LOGIN User2 WITH PASSWORD = 'Demo12#2' CREATE USER User2 FOR LOGIN User2 GO CREATE LOGIN User3 WITH PASSWORD = 'Demo12#3' CREATE USER User3 FOR LOGIN User3 GOI then created a schema that one of them owned. Under this schema, I added a table with some data.
CREATE SCHEMA MySchema AUTHORIZATION User1
GO
CREATE TABLE Myschema.MyTable(myid INT)
GO
INSERT MySchema.MyTable
(
myid
)
VALUES
(1), (2), (3)
GO
SELECT * FROM MySchema.MyTable
GO
I granted rights and verified that User2 could access this table.
GRANT SELECT ON Myschema.MyTable TO User2 GO SETUSER 'USER2' GO SELECT * FROM MySchema.MyTable GOThis worked. Now, I move this schema to a new user.
ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON SCHEMA::Myschema TO User3; GOWhat happens with this code?
SETUSER 'USER2' GO SELECT * FROM MySchema.MyTable GOSee possible answers
