please do not get me "wrong"
i personally feel the whole system is flawed
why do i say this ? if you are fighting fires all the time
whats the point of choosing that system ?
figure out a different system
those are the same issues which you will find in each and everything you can think off ( i mean people stuff )
could go on and on and on with all sorts kinds of stuff
sigh , yawn , half asleep .. mean the person reading

Totally agree. If you can change the architecture of your system and make it handle the Database better, optimize queries, and change the fundamental practice in how we use the DB, then you will not have to fight fires. I have worked on these systems and worked very closely with engineers to design these types of systems. The day-to-day life of a DBA, though, normally does not have these options. They do not have a say in what can or cannot be changed. Many engineers don't even have a say in how much time they have to work on older systems or to fix bad architecture. So yes if you have the power to change those things then by all means do so. This post was directly focused on the many of us that were not able to make those changes.

Yup .. me personally have worked in many companies where i have seen bad architecture , horrible people management , bad politics
just observed those things .. took my salary and went home
