It's a holiday weekend in the US this weekend. As such, many of you will be taking a break from work and enjoying time with family, as well as remembering some history in the US. If you're in the rest of the world, hopefully you have a holiday coming up soon you can enjoy.
One of the important things about holiday and vacation is getting away from work and refreshing and recharging yourself. Finding a balance is important for you enjoying life, but also being more creative and focused at work. Many of us work hard, but we also need to learn to really enjoy life.
If any of you have been following Brent Ozar, you know he's in Iceland for a few months. He's living and working there, and recently updated his Epic Life Quest to show he completed Level 15. Whether you want to visit Iceland or not, the idea of tackling things in life that matter to you is important. You should be living the way that you want to live, doing the things that matter to you and your family.
Lots of people have a bucket list of some sort, including me. I've had a "life list" for a long time, and have worked to knock a few things off. I'm not as organized or focused as Brent, but I'm happy with the things I've been doing.
This year I've started to be a little more excited in the world with things happening outside of work. With the pandemic making much of work and life boring, it was nice for me to get away for some short trips with my wife, and having volleyball coaching as something to engage me in life. It was an exciting season for my girls, as they went 49-4.
There's lots of technical stuff to learn, and some fun things in this newsletter, but I hope that you remember to tackle things in life that excite you. Things that make life worth living and fun. We work to live, not the other way around, so whether you want to plan things out or take advantage of opportunities when you can, make your own dreams and wishes come true.
