Are the posted questions getting worse?

How the .... did this person get a job in IT?????

The force in this one is not only weak, I think it is nonexistant.

I just checked the guy's posting history. He's asked questions like, "How do I move a file at the OS level?"

I'm guessing he got trapped in an IT job by way of, "he knows how to do computer stuff".

More like he was the only one who could spell IT. 😛

How about guy. Creating DTS packages in SQL Server 2005

The best part is my current client, I wonder how many clients he worked with.

Hey Gus, how is it going on at your workplace? Are things settling down?

The rumor mill is seriously overclocked at this point. I think it's running at about 20 GHz (20 billion new rumors per second), each one worse than the last.

The official word is that it's "business as usual, just without our executive structure".

On the other hand, almost everyone I know has their resume floating around to various recruiters. That by itself can turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy of doom.

One of the guys taking on part of the executive function gave a bit of a speech the other day. Was very insulting of the departing execs, despite admitting he hasn't the faintest clue why they left. Didn't exactly inspire confidence.

    Another way of putting it:

    select avg(prognosis)

    from dbo.CompanyHealthIndictors;

    result

Between "Not A F*ing Chance" and "Not Looking Good"

Really sorry to hear how things are goin. I'll keep you and your coworkers in my prayers and hope that things actually turn out better than they look at the moment. It isn't always a train coming the other direction when you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I always forget this one. How do you flip the "run faster" switch to the on position in SQL Server?

BWAA-HAAA!!! Whenever I get a "make SQL Server run faster" question, I can't help but think of the setting that makes them all go away... the "Boost SQL Server Priority" setting in database options.

Also, just for reference... I don't believe that the "pin table" setting actually does anything anymore as of SQL Server 2k5. I think they kept it there just to keep from breaking stuff and I believe (haven't double checked which version it was) that it's been deprecated.

Had a great time meeting Gus last night at our December OPASS meeting. He did a great job presenting on Auditing and Logging based on his articles from last year. Everyone enjoyed his presentation. It's another voice to put with a post.

On a side note. We, OPASS that is, are looking for a speaker for January 12th. We are open to doing a Live Meeting, especially with an experienced speaker. Anyone interested?

Where is it at and how long should the presentation be? If it's somewhere warm, I may actually consider it. 😀

I think crystal balls work better than ouji boards. Especially when you drop them on someone's foot to emphasize a point.

Dropping only provides limited emphasis (terminal velocity <> maximum velocity). I prefer to throw or launch the ball for emphasis.

They were too expensive for me. If you hang around the grocery store, you can usually get them to give you the pork chops that have gone a little green. 😛

    Rim-shot

Knew it was only a matter of time before Jeff got a pork chop in on that one.

Though less expensive, a pork chop cannot provide as much emphasis as a crystal ball. Pleasure factor though could outweigh the emphasis though.

  • Jeff,

OPASS stands for Orlando PASS and, yes, that would be Florida with Disney and all that. It was 80's today and we have the AC on now, so I guess it is usually warm, we do get the occasional windy 50 degree day in the winter.

Are you thinking coming in person or Live Meeting?

    -Jack

  • Wow! Today was a really busy day for The Thread. At this rate 10k will be reached by the end of the week. Now I have to go back and read about 100 posts that I missed today. :w00t:

Pin table has been deprecated. I was just trying to do my mentalist impression and figure out what the heck the guy was talking about. It just didn't make any sense.
