Question is being asked in the forum: "if mdf get full by data then how to make free space without adding disk."Is it ok to suggest dropping tables? 😀 😎
Well dropping something!!
The database. Well, it'll clean up some space really quickly...
HEY! That's my favorite technique! I use it all the time.
... And every time I do, people decorates my desk with little pink slips of confetti. Well, the slips are a little bigger than confetti, but still, someone thinks I'm doing a wonderful job. If so, they wouldn't be celebrating. Right?

Oh, yeah. I just saw someone post that as a reply to Lowell's "Scripting out DBMail" thread. I reported as a "can this be moved to a new thread of its own" post. Didn't realize it was getting posted elsewhere too.
Well yeah. If you pose a new question to an existing thread that's completely out of context, why not post it to multiple locations? :w00t:

I don't know if the wet noodle can be patented. I think that pre-dates all of us by a good number of years. Mothers have been using them since the beginning of time. Unless, of course, you have a vastly-improved wet noodle, but I can't imagine what you could do to "improve" the one my mother used on me.

I like this comment from one of the threads:
Look at the tables that grow the quickest and the causes of this.
Uh, users using the system? Isn't that what you want?

No, it's not what's wanted! The users using the system should not make tables grow! Duh!!!!
The force is weak in some people!

Don't be ridiculous, you two. Table growth has nothing to do with users and everything to do with the business growing by leaps and bounds. It's called "Da boss man makin' money, doncha know."

Or it's job security. The SAN admin, sysadmin, and me got together to schedule a job that keeps up employed and busy. Once a day we run:
insert orders
select bottom 10%
orderid, 0 as customerid, 1 as completed, orderdate
from orders

LOVE IT!
I'll present that to my boss's boss and see if he'll bite. Maybe a little numbers inflation will really make our division look good.
If I can stop dropping databases to free up hard drive space. @=)

Man, I hate the week leading up to a 3-day weekend like this...
Half the people (the smart ones?) take the other 4 days off, and the people who don't, probably half are only in the office physically...
Me, I'm mostly here, at least I've got some interesting issues to work on (Log backup of one DB w/3rd party backup utility stalls at 8% done)

Some of the smart ones aren't allowed to take the week off when it coincides with major events, like month end.
Ah, well. At least I like my employer and my workplace culture.

I know what you mean. I think I checked out about 2:30 on Monday. At least for me I have a 5 day weekend. My son and I will be at Webelos camp Sunday - Tuesday. It is super hot but at least there is a nice pool at the camp we get to swim in.
