Man, I hate the week leading up to a 3-day weekend like this...Half the people (the smart ones?) take the other 4 days off, and the people who don't, probably half are only in the office physically...
Me, I'm mostly here, at least I've got some interesting issues to work on (Log backup of one DB w/3rd party backup utility stalls at 8% done)
I know what you mean. I think I checked out about 2:30 on Monday. At least for me I have a 5 day weekend. My son and I will be at Webelos camp Sunday - Tuesday. It is super hot but at least there is a nice pool at the camp we get to swim in.
Have a good time with your son. Webelos was a blast with my son.
I've been mentally checked out all week too. It's been a struggle to pay attention and get stuff done. We're taking off for a three week trip on Saturday (yeah, flying on the 4th, that's a new one for me). Going to the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France & Germany to see stuff like Ypres, the Somme, Waterloo, Arnhem, Bastogne, Aachen & Cologne.

Sounds like it ought to be fun!
Me, I think I've been on 4 cylinders most of the week instead of 8, and I think tomorrow I'm going to be dropping a cylinder every hour or two until I leave for the weekend...
Then do about an hours work on my prod servers Friday morning while everyone else is starting their weekend, but at least it'll be from home...
Next week the wife and I are getting out of town for a 4 day weekend, so that kind of makes up for things.

How do people keep their jobs when it is obvious they are dependent on the good will of strangers on the internet to diagnose and resolve database issues, especially some who have been working with SQL Server for at least 10 years.

This is his second year as a Webelo so we pretty much know what to expect. This coming school year will be his last as a cub and the first year for our youngest. Assuming I continue as Cubmaster it will be 9 years in that position when my youngest finally crosses over. Between that and coaching 2 soccer teams (down from 3 last season), it is a wonder I even find time to work. 😉

No to bring politics into this but in such a liberal society is very difficult to terminate somebody. It used be you didn't like that person so got sent packing. These days you have to documented proof of rules violations, competence has nothing to do with tenure at a job anymore.

That's easy...
QUICK! Look over there!! It's a dinosaur!!
(franticly types question in and spams it across 8 unrelated subsections of SQL Server Central while simultaneously calling their *real* DBA friend on their cell)
Oh, the problem you mentioned? I fixed that a couple minutes ago. Sorry you missed seeing the dinosaur though, it was really cool...

Understand about the coaching soccer. As far as the club is concerned, I am the teams head coach, but when it comes to the team itself, I defer to Coach Greco. Since the girls are all part of the Lady Trojans Soccer Program he knows the girls better than I do. It is fun, though, but it will probably the end of the season before I know all 22 girls by name. Speaking of which, I need to try and get them registered for the Pride of the Rockies Tournament.

That is kind of how it works with older son's team. I am officially the assistant coach but the head coach defers to me a lot of times. He is an awesome coach but his soccer knowledge is not as deep as baseball or basketball. For my youngest son's team I am the head coach.
Game day is the worst part. I have coaching responsibilities with my younger son's team as first priority. The head coach on the other team is also head coach for his younger son's team which is a year older than mine. Often times one of use will coach both of those teams while the other one coaches the older boys. Between us we have to juggle coaching three teams. Practices are pretty easy though, we just do a combined practice of two younger teams. Good grief, I just reread and almost think I need to create a diagram so I can keep it straight. :w00t:

I'm amazed on how they've got the job in the first place. After having some interviews and knowing what some people expect, it's amazing they can go through all that and keep their jobs so long without learning the basics.

Here is what I like about my team, when school starts the Trojan Girls Soccer preseason training becomes the competitive teams practices. Works great since the real coaches are the high school girls coaches any way. Since practice is a part of school at that point, they have no reason to miss practices unless they are also participating in a high school Fall sport like Cross Country.

SIGH.It's a purple kind of day. With a little hint of beige.
Colour wise I suggest then a glass of Limoncello
😎
I had my first taste of Limoncello a few months ago. It was homemade by the family-owned Italian restaurant in town. WOW. Apparently the owner makes all kinds of liquor for appertifs (I know I'm not spelling that right, but you know what I mean). He made a chocolate marshmallow one too. Very interesting stuff.
Limoncello is like pasta, has to be home made to be "real";-) So what did you think of it, that is yellow being the opposite of purple:-D

Some keep their jobs because the bosses are not smart enough to notice.
