Changing the Owner of a Single DTS Package

This is not an original script - but one I modified from an article by Darren Green on databasejournal.com (02/21/2000).  His original script changed the owner of all DTS packages owned by @old_owner to be owned by @new_owner.  This script will change the owner of the most recent version of a specific DTS package (@p_name) […]

Table structure in 8 x 11 w/size, rows & indexes

Using the sp_help to get a table structure is very cumbersome.  First, in order to print it you have to use"Results in Text" not "Results in Grid".  Second, the results are very wide screen-wise and very hard to read or print.  Third, you do not get the size or number rows with the same request. This […]

Latest DTS Package Log

This script returns the latest package log for the DTS package specified in the @package_name variable.  The interface for viewing DTS package logs through Enterprise Manager is limited in the fact that it doesn't provide textual descriptions of the values for the Step Execute Status and Step Execute Results.  This makes it difficult to trace […]

Finding Trailing Spaces

I have some data in a SQL Server 2025 database. It looks like this for the dbo.Customer table:

CustomerID CustomerName PreferredName
1 Steve Steve
2 Andy Andy
3 Brian Brian
4 Allan Allan
5 Devin Devin
6 Steve Steve
7 Sally Sally
I want to detect which names have a single trailing space. The CustomerName is a varchar() and the PreferredName is a CHAR(). Does this query detect the problem rows?
SELECT
       CustomerID,
       CustomerName,
       PreferredName
FROM Customer
WHERE CustomerName <> RTRIM(CustomerName)
OR PreferredName <> RTRIM(PreferredName);
