Good points and that's interesting. Why isn't it pushed more in terms of tax credits. There are certainly a lot of jobs that could be done remotely.

Skipping two releases is a big deal, but the difference between going SS2000 to SS2008 is not much different than SS2000 to SS2005. Because SS2005 and SS2008 are very similar.

Popularity != usefullness
One doesn't imply or exclude the other. Books, seminars, in person conversations, etc. None of these is necessarily out of date because it's not popular.
