Are the posted questions getting worse?

Hey Gus, I have an urgent need for a stored proc. It needs to join an Oracle, DB2, and SQL table and be heterogeneous.

I need it done 3 weeks ago, will you do it for me?

What? You lost it already? I wrote that weeks ago, as soon as I figured out you would need it (which was tough since I don't know when and where you were born, so I had to figure those things out from the sum of the numerical values of the Summerian spelling of your name)! Don't you run backups?

Backups - what? Downloading brain scan now.......

Hmm, I wonder if I could get paid more over in Saudia Arabia?? 😉

I don't know, but your trips to the desert would be shorter. 😛

And now on SQLTeam as well: http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=137926 Just in case.

Oh, it was posted 3 weeks ago there too. http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=137201

With lots of assistance from lots of people.

It seems like Gus is right with his assumption that the OP might have to come back to get the query changed into a SP. He got the query itself on Dec 15th (including a VERY detailed explanation how to change the original proposal to fit his table structure) and was pretty happy about it (quoting sqlteam post):

Hmmm...I guess the prof gave him an extension?

Actually, nothing earlier indicated that it was urgent, so more like ...

HA...I like his response on 12/16 and then it is followed by his new post for today. I guess he doesn't make backups.

  • Why are there so many 'if you don't help me I'll lose my job' posts all over the place? I just got one by PM. Frankly, seeing that in a post doesn't make me more likely to reply, it makes me smell desperation and walk away because I don't want to be the person's designated helper for the next 6 months.

Also, what does it say to the world when you say "I can't write a simple procedure and if you don't help me I'll lose my job"

The thing that really confuses me is, how do these people get hired ?.

Is the interview process 'Have you heard of SQL ?'. Good, we'll entrust you with the well being of our company.

He reminds me of one of my kids - he'll put more effort into avoiding doing something than if he just did it and got it out of the way.

Aren't we doing the same thing here? There are more letters written discussing the subject than the solution would have required... 😀

But sometimes that's the way it is... 😉 (and maybe, sometimes there is even a valid reason for it. Both: on the forum and for your kid).

They find people willing to give them answers to questions normally asked during the interview and they memorize them. They look good during the interview and get hired, to the detriment of the company and those who were more qualified but didn't interview as well.

Brain scan downloads should work, since I posted it telepathically into the past. If you can't access it, try Tarot cards to figure out the password.

To me, it says "scam". Either they scammed their way into a job they can't do, or they're scamming you. Simple as that. I just ignore statements like that and handle the post the way I would any other.

If the password is encrypted and you need another reading, I have a set too.
