Are the posted questions getting worse?

So I have this ridiculous thought of doing a series of articles for my blog on how to build a SQL Server database for a comic book collection.

What do you think? Should I do this?

The ridiculous part is not writing it here πŸ˜‰

Ah, well, I wasn't sure if you'd go for that kind of series. @=) Since you will, sure I'll do it for here.

Thanks for the support, guys. And while I could buy a DB for this, I primarily wanted to do it as an exercise in database design (and as a tutorial) because I will never have time to actually enter in every single comic book I have, regardless of whether I purchase the DB or build it.

The scanning part of it is awesome. I have over 5,000 comics entered already with only working on it an hour or so an evening over a few days.

But yes, as a tutorial it'd be great. Let me know if I can be of any assistance on the design part. Or any part, really.

  • First, a very hearty congratulations to the new MCM's!

Out of shear curiosity, how much (including the prerequisites) would you say you had to spend to get the MCM?

    Funny guy...

Not that I consider myself an expert. But I do fake it well on the odd occasion. @=)

Go for it. It can serve as a tutorial for those wanting to learn how to design and develop a database. Especially true if you take the database through some schema changes as the requirements for the database expand.

Brandie, yes for exactly the reason Lynn stated!

As everyone has said, it would be a good way from someone to get a better idea of how to go about designing a DB from the ground up, then making changes as needed.

Of course, everyone will then expect the last step to show them how to create a GUI front-end, just because...

I've kicked around trying to design for my own use a DB to track the movies the wife and I own, who we've lent them to and when, and gotten as far as scribbling down ideas...

    Need to ressurect that idea...

  • Late to the game, but well done Jason & Wayne.

Which is exactly what I can't do because I'm not that good at front end application coding. On the other hand, if there's someone here who wants to take on that task for the second phase of articles, I'd be willing to work with him/her on that kind of "here's how real life business works" kind of project.
