On a different topic, for those that have a blog, what do you'll think of using GoDaddy for hosting a domain and WordPress blog? What do you'll think of using WordPress for the blog?
I'm thinking about signing up for it, but wanted to get opinions from others first.
I have several WordPress blogs and I use the host Arvixe. They're inexpensive, reliable and flexible. One of the reasons I like them is that not only can I create as many subsites as I want, I can also create WordPress blogs on a Microsoft platform server. This lets me use ASPX for the main website and still use WordPress for any blogs I create.
I've been unimpressed with what I've heard about GoDaddy and their ads make me think they don't really have any technical knowledge.

Wahoo! My users group just scheduled me to speak in August. Let the stress begin.... πWell, today is the day, wish me luck! T minus 6 hours 7 minutes and counting. I also submitted the topic I'm covering for SQL Saturday, and I'm sure the organizer is going to be there today. Since the selection happens later this week, it feels like an audition - realistically I don't know how it couldn't be. It will be good - if they select me, I know it will be 100% on merit, and if they don't select me I'll know that I probably would have embarrassed myself there anyway. If you're the praying type, I wouldn't mind any petitions in my behalf.
Thanks,
Chad
Good luck. Maybe I should come heckle:cool:

I'm sure you'll do fine. What's your topic?
"Table Fission:An Introduction to Partition|ing"
It's a 50,000' view of partitioning - just enough to help someone figure out if partitioning is something they want to dig into.
Thanks for the well wishes - I'll let you know how many "umm"s I use and if I trip on the carpet and fall on my face π

Ask Grant about GoDaddy, and take a couple steps back.
Grant didn't like it at all, but I also believe his configuration was a bit different than what they do currently. I think they have improved upon it and I haven't had any issues for the past 1.5 yrs.

Jason Brimhall, Come on down! You're the next contestant.... Seriously, I'm bringing treats to encourage participation, so if you want some you need to be there. π
The heckling I'm fine with. I am a little nervous about potential deep, deep questions that go beyond my knowledge, but I've practiced the slides I have and feel pretty good about that part. I'm practicing, "That is an excellent question, let's save that for the end and address it then...."

Not 100% sure about this. Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but given the lack of english comprehension on his part I'd let it slide for now. We can always monitor and reping him in a few days if he continues on this track.

He should take a couple of steps back, then ask about GoDaddy.
Short answer, no, I don't think much of them. I'd suggest going with DreamHost. I've been with them since December and it's been very good. They do great work.

Nope. My setup was in November. The only thing "different" I did was set up a SQL Server database instead of MySQL. The issues were all on the GoDaddy side. I was on a server that was having major problems. They acknowledged that it was all on the server and all on their end. I asked to move to another server. Nope. Can't. OK, move me to MySQL. Nope. Can't. Fix the problem? Working on it. Should be done within a few weeks.... Hello DreamHost. Yeah, can you guys take a database from GoDaddy? You can? Great...

I'm officially out.I'll never, ever be an employee again.
I'll punch my timecard for the last time in 1 minute.
Congratulations and I wish you nothing but success. If you ever run into a problem that you need help with (no likely from what I've seen over the years π ), you know where to come to for help. As Mr. Red Green would say, "We're all in this together and I'm pullin' for ya."
May things go well for you. PM me with your US rate information and I'll add you to my overflow short-list. We'll see what 'our' new credit rating will do to my ability to afford you over the next few weeks.
Thanks Jim and everyone.
I'm out for a week on holiday at the seaside and there's no Internet here, so I can't connect very often.
Jim, I seem to have found a contract for the next three months π
Thank you very much, you're very kind!
Things start flowing in the right direction!!!

WordPress blogs use MySQL as the standard backend, though I did find a project through Googling where they're working on WordPress with SQL Server as a backend.

Nope. I'm on MySQL now. It's a pain becuase I can't just swoop in there & run a bunch of scripts my way. But, it supposedly runs better on MySQL.
