Okay, some day, some one is going to really think that there is a DBCC TIMEWARP command. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to be a permanent Jr DBA. :w00t:

Excellent technical advice on The Thread today. Thanks all.

Thats sqlbits all over with now , great conference. My talk seemed to go pretty well, room full of blank faces when i asked "who uses tally tables". Just hope i didnt suck to much, now waiting for the feedback forms.BWAA-HAAA!!!! Oh lordy! The question I normally ask is "Who of you knows what a Numbers or Tally Table is"? I throw the "Numbers" name in there just in case they know it by that name.
Just like you said... everywhere no one from SSC hasn't been before, I get that proverbial "deer in headlights" stare. The last time I asked it at a local PASS meeting I taught to, only one person out of nearly 50 raised their hand and he had never actually used one... just heard of it.
I'm sorry I lost track of what your presentation was on so let me ask... what was your presentation on and is there someplace where we can see either the deck or the movie?
And, congratulations on the presentation. I just know you did well.
That honestly makes me feel a little better for not having known about it until I learned it here. I know you're constantly reminding people you didn't invent it, but you did teach a lot of people about it.
Gosh... I just don't know what to say. Thanks, Stefan.

I will be sending an email to my members regarding the next topic they would like to see in T-SQL. That I think is the best way to find out what they would like to hear.Depending on how many members you could use google docs to do a survey. Very easy to do. I don't know if you can do that in the MS Office online offering (don't even know what they call it).
Heh... actually, it'll be pretty easy for Roy. 90% of his local chapter membership are all from the same company that Roy works for. 😛

For those interested , attached is the script i used at sqlbits. All pretty self explanatory really, i choose the tally split function to demonstrate
A) You cant trust the %tage of batch value in SSMS
B) Show parrallelism
Rather than just brut performance 😉
As you may see it is 99-newtally
I have scripts of 01 thru 07 to demonstrate ranking functions , cte , "It depends" ( Thanks Bob) and other bits and pieces. They didnt really fit in so didn't make the cut , but should be good for a more "dev" based audience.
As i say the other part of my session was based on my FIFO query, more of an interactive version of Kathi Kellenberger's analysis.
Very cool... You've got a little something for everyone in there. 🙂

I'm not sure I got the order of operation there correct. Do you check that it's the correct DB before or after dropping it?The order is not that critical if you have DBCC TimeWarp installed. 😀
I always found the time to check was 'During'. Gave me the most interesting results. 🙂
I'd agree, but the duration for drop database is so short there isn't even time to reflect on the meaning of life.
I just realized who our drop database OP was. Doh
I realised even before I opened it. Some days I wonder...
