All the session were filmed , so will be on the sqlbits site "at some point".
Started off , other than pre-amble, with a run through of my "Fifo" query from
http://ask.sqlservercentral.com/questions/826/the-fifo-stock-inventory-sql-problem
Then 20 minutes of simple(ish) tally table stuff. No deck , done it all through code. I Can send you that if you want ?
My PowerPoint skills are quite bad , but i did get a 1/2 hour master class from Buck Woody, which was nice π
Agree on Grants the 'impact' point. Lets have the work done once and right π

I just wanted to let you all know that Jeff Moden gave a great presentation for our user group yesterday using Netmeeting. Everyone loved it. And they like the idea of Netmeeting as well. Thanks Jeff for taking time to give us this presentation. πI talked to couple of guys today morning and they want you back... π
Ah, thanks Roy. You made it all very easy with the time you took to figure out how to do it all. You've got a good group of folks there, Roy. They made me feel right at home. I think it would be a really cool thing if you wrote an article on how you did it all. It would be a big help to other PASS Chapter leaders.
I was thinking of this as an article or a blog post. It sure will make it easy for others who have no experience in setting up a Netmeeting.
And Thanks for the presentation once again. My CTO wants me to Thank You personally when we meet at SQL Pass. He was thrilled with the presentation.

Thats sqlbits all over with now , great conference. My talk seemed to go pretty well, room full of blank faces when i asked "who uses tally tables". Just hope i didnt suck to much, now waiting for the feedback forms.I'm sure you did a great job, Dave.
I wish I had the time and money to attend this kind of conference.
I would have liked to have seen this as well. Congrats, Dave, and I'm sure it was good.
Gianluca, SQL Bits has a free day if you can get up to the UK. Or you could try to get one in your area. Get a few volunteers, find some space, maybe a local college, likely you could get something going and I'm sure some of the organizers would come over.

Speaking of this, I presented at a Developers code camp the other day and had an absolute blast. I've got 12-15 people in a room and none of them knew about parameter sniffing or sargeability or any of the basics of query tuning. It was excellent. I'm thinking about stopping presentations for DBAs and just presenting to developers. I probably made more impact there than I have in several presentations.
I think you're right on the money about making more impact, Grant.
I think that's true as well. Thinking of doing some of this myself.

Thanks, Steve. This makes things much more interesting... I'll be sure to check the next conference with this in mind.

I'd love to see the code, Dave. Thanks. I'm sure the others would like to see it as well if you'd just like to attach it to a thread post. Thanks. And thanks for the ling to the FIFO inventory link.

Thanks all , its a whole new scary world into which ive taken the first few pigeon steps.
The cost of sqlbits (3 days worth including 1 day precon) was only Β£550 , at its MOST expensive.
The community Saturday is free regardless.

Though the cost of Travel, hotel , food , drink ( that was quite a major expense π ) does add up.
Still cant believe that my name is sitting on the same agenda as all these MVPS , MCM's (yes plural , the universe doesnt collapse if there are two in the same room π ) and Microsoft notables employees.

Heh... crap... I thought I had the Developers all to myself. π I even posted the fact that my PASS sessions were "Developer-to-Developer". I'm with you... I absolutely love teaching the folks that deal with the trials and tribulations of code every day. Most people only have to optimize a server a couple of times over it's life time. Developers have to optimize code a couple of times each day and they really appreciate when someone asks things like "Do YOU know what a Numbers or Tally table is?"
I'm trying it out on the road, as well. Not only am I doing Developer-to-Developer sessions (1 guaranteed, 1 standby) for PASS, I'm also giving it a try at SQL Saturday #60 (Cleveland) and I just did a session for Roy's good team remotely. Like you said, it's an absolute blast and it greatly appeals to my first two loves... SQL Server and teaching.

Absolutely! Make an article here on SSC for it (heh... you get paid for it here). If you need someone to help and/or review it before it's published, let me know. I'll be happy to help.
And Thanks for the presentation once again. My CTO wants me to Thank You personally when we meet at SQL Pass. He was thrilled with the presentation.
Gosh... thanks Roy. It was my pleasure and a whole lot of fun to do!
You mentioned having me back again. Is there a particular subject in T-SQL that you good folks would like to cover? Ask the group. See what they may say. Of course, if you want, I could pick one but I'd rather hit a guaranteed area of interest.

I will be sending an email to my members regarding the next topic they would like to see in T-SQL. That I think is the best way to find out what they would like to hear.

Add a paragraph in that email encouraging them to think about presenting. Hopefully that will work better there than here.

Thats sqlbits all over with now , great conference. My talk seemed to go pretty well, room full of blank faces when i asked "who uses tally tables". Just hope i didnt suck to much, now waiting for the feedback forms.BWAA-HAAA!!!! Oh lordy! The question I normally ask is "Who of you knows what a Numbers or Tally Table is"? I throw the "Numbers" name in there just in case they know it by that name.
Just like you said... everywhere no one from SSC hasn't been before, I get that proverbial "deer in headlights" stare. The last time I asked it at a local PASS meeting I taught to, only one person out of nearly 50 raised their hand and he had never actually used one... just heard of it.
I'm sorry I lost track of what your presentation was on so let me ask... what was your presentation on and is there someplace where we can see either the deck or the movie?
And, congratulations on the presentation. I just know you did well.
That honestly makes me feel a little better for not having known about it until I learned it here. I know you're constantly reminding people you didn't invent it, but you did teach a lot of people about it.
