It's fairly well protected. If you exceed the max, it won't shrink that far.

Not sure you need to change anything. Was this a same server upgrade? AFAIK if Windows sees 2 CPUs, then SQL will.

I used to reboot quarterly, apply patches, etc at that time.
However with W2K, it's not that much of an issue. We have been getting enough reboots lately with the patches...

This is probably the best way. Simple and easy. I do something similar, but have DTS to migrate a bunch of this data to one server for a daily report....

I don't think so, but you'd have to try it. Not sure if there is anything in the multi-server code that would stop this.
