It could work, but IMHO, it's a bad move. At least to move everything. You could move some stuff, but I'd like someone nearby I could call in a pinch....

Gail has it correct. It will use more space, because it rebuilds things, but MDF files will grow only if you run out of space inside the current MDF files...

What are you trying to do? They usually perform separate actions, but if you are looking to just update another server, I might recommend looking at Service Broker.

Typically there's a utility with the hardware vendor that can check this, but it's an OS level task, not something you can see from SQL.
As mentioned, contact your Windows admin.

This is almost always hardware. Freezing like this could be bad hardware, strange drivers, anything like that.
