I wouldn't necessarily recommend this and be sure you have this well...

Management Studio doesn't automatically do anything to services. If you stopped the SQL service, it's possible the application depends on it and would stop, but running SSMS wouldn't do this.

As with everything, it depends.
I think it's as likely that it's thrown in there to limit the candidates as it is just an addition by HR that isn't really required....
