We did try that, then Profiler complained that there were events missing. The traces replay from the files just fine.

I always install the client tools on the server - you never know when you aren't going to have network access, be working in the server room, etc.

Unfortunately, the SQL Server 2000 machine is accross a slow WAN connection, so I need to perform the trace locally there and then copy the file back here and replay...
