You should read Brent Ozar's blog on the MCM (http://www.brentozar.com/archive/tag/mcm/) , especially today. The QOD isn't appropriate. It's more for the junior people that are trying to learn, and fill gaps.
Interesting blog today.
I went back and read one from a couple of days ago as well. Between the two, I see that there may be two ways to get the MCM for free (though only one makes you certified).

I used to be the same. Commuted to Denver from Colorado Springs for 15 years, survived on 4 hours sleep Monday through Friday.Had to Google that to appreciate the distance. When I go into Wellington I usually catch the train, which takes 55 minutes each way - good opportunity for a nap š
As far as points are concerned, bear in mind that 1,000 or so have been earned through QotD. I finished running through them a while ago. Found them very entertaining, and a good way to validate what I do and don't know. There are also some interesting discussions on occasion - particularly when Hugo is involved. I am placed 55th overall on QotD with 67% correct - a fair reflection of the minimal time I spent on each question, following Steve's approach.
A good way to prepare for the MCM š
Okay, as for QotD: 64th with 73% correct; 2567 attempted, 1878 won.
Obviuosly, I have quite a few older ones still to answer.

15th - 2619 won, 88% correct.
I sit here and wonder how those people at the top are nearly perfect in the QOD with so many that were wrong.

Yep, Windows Home Server. Worked great while it was up, actually used it to pull back a file I lost one day. Not sure when it died since it was something we used every week or two to move files around between machines (photos).
I built it from an old Dell, and it was performing great. I'll pop it open tonight or tomorrow and see if I can figure out which drive died. This will be an interesting test of their disk recovery / protection mechanism.

Interesting Nugget:

Iām just not surprised at all that the first-time pass rate is so dismally low.

I'm not surprised either, though I wonder if they'll find less and less people bothering with it because of the grind and lack of payback for the investment.

Knowing that a majority are MS employees may have a little to do with it. With some of the nonMS people attending, I am surprised that the pass rate is not higher.

Multiple registrations?

I wonder what the pass rate is for emps v non-emps. Do emps have less pressure? Not sure what the retake policy is either. I'd think they could retake in a week or month at that price.

Answering the question a day late with the answer published in the news letter?
I thought I'd answered more questions, maybe I'll go back and answer some older questions. My stats are:
Attempted: 345
Won: 261
Percent 76%
EDIT: spelling error

Is it? Oh, well that might explain it too, then!

Probably - just gaming the system then.

Answering a day late only accounts for some of it. They would have to have stayed on top of it from day 1 of QOD.
Many of the newsletters are in the archive, but not all - thus any new registrations wouldn't be able to find all of the answers either.
I think the multiple registration is a piece of it. That certainly makes it a lot easier.
