Not the usual, but I could use help with this one: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic830994-1199-1.aspxI am 80 miles from Philadelphia, need to know the time in order to plan.
Please post the site info here, when available.
Looking forward to it.
Does any one have information about a SQL Server User Group near Harrisburg, PA. I tried searching but could not find any. Any help is much appreciated!
It'll probably run like 8AM to 3PM.
There's no SQL SIG that I know of in Harrisburg, but there is a .Net SIG that does a SQL track at their annual Code Camp in December. I presented there last year, and was supposed to present again this year until I got sick. You could talk to Luke who lives in Harrisburg...

Thanks Jack.
I am thankful for all your guidance here in SSC. I shall start thinking on setting up one (if we don't have one already).
First I need to go though the links provided earlier and check with PASS about any existing chapter.

Bru, The PASS people are very helpful and friendly. I got excellent help from Blythe and Greg. You will also get to use lots of learning materials and presentation materials. Since you are in US, you could also get Speakers easily. For me that was the difficult part since I am in an Island far away from the US where PASS is very active(Or I thought it would be difficult).
But the members of my group have been very cooperative. I can give a presentation only once every 4 months since the other three months are already booked by others.. 🙂 I still get a minimum of 12 people to attend every month.

Had a great time meeting Gus last night at our December OPASS meeting. He did a great job presenting on Auditing and Logging based on his articles from last year. Everyone enjoyed his presentation. It's another voice to put with a post.
On a side note. We, OPASS that is, are looking for a speaker for January 12th. We are open to doing a Live Meeting, especially with an experienced speaker. Anyone interested?

If you can't find one, start one. There are several people on this site that have done so, and I'm sure they would provide you some guidance.
I thought about that idea, but was not sure I would qualify to be a PASS chapter founding member. I am not yet that level of speaking in communities. So wanted to initially join a SSUG and plan about setting up one later.
You really don't need to be SQL expert to start a chapter. The only really hard part for starting one, and keeping one running, is getting speakers. After that you just need to drag twenty of your friends into a room once a month. That's usually not too hard (but it can be). There are vendors out there that will buy the pizza for the group, or if you affiliate with PASS you can get funds from your users registering for the Summit. Talk to the colleges in your area if you don't have a good-sized Microsoft shop near by. They'll host the meetings for free, usually, especially since you can encourage their students to attend with the added incentive of jobs.
Then, it's tracking down speakers... which can be a lot of work and very difficult, unless you're in Florida. They seem to have about 5 speakers/square mile.

Don't be afraid to ask questions here. I'm only 1 of at least 4 leaders that frequent the thread. Thanks Alvin and appreciate your time. I wouldd surely look into it.
Bru,
Definitely check out the PASS web site like Alvin mentioned and you can also contact blythe.morrow@sqlpass.org as she is the person in the PASS office that works with chapters. She will definitely try to help you find a group and if there isn't one help you start a group. It's actually part of her job. You can say that I gave you her email, I don't know if it'll help or hurt, but she does know me.
You can drop my name with Blythe as well. She can't kick you through the phone or email, so it'll be fine.

There's not a SSUG here in HBG. I've been interested in joining one if there was one. I'm actually on the mailing list for the Philly one, but can't justify the time off to drive down and back in one night, though. The local .net users group[/url] tried to start a SQL SIG which I think may have met once about 6 months ago. They were trying to tie in more to SSRS with some SSIS emphasis as well.
I enjoyed seeing Barry speak at the local Code Camp last year. Was hoping to see him on the speakers list again this year, and I was sorry to see his name missing from it. Unfortunately, Code camp was this past weekend (Dec 5) so you just missed it Bru.
Long story short, there's no local PASS chapter. You pretty much have to drive to Pittsburgh or Philly. However, if you're looking to start one in the area, I'll be your first member. I could try to help out as much as I can. Or if you just want to get together for coffee/beer/tea/lunch sometime that would be fine too. Just shoot me a PM or email.
-Luke.

From experience I'd say you need more organisational, administrative and advertising skills than anything SQL-specific

Find, I do, this one's questions quite lacking in detail. Pulling hen's teeth easier it would.

The OP may announce $100,000 reward to "Anyone who can add a Column in a View inside Oracle from SQL Server " (Without using Linked Server)

Thus we have added a column with a view to an Oracle of Delphi, and all of this will stored in SQL Server...

One more item for getting a PASS Chapter going, try to find a few others in the area that have the same interest. It's nice to have more than one person doing all the work. We only have 2 people running the Memphis Chapter and it's going reasonably well at the moment.
And FYI, if any of you are in the Memphis, TN, area tomorrow night, Louis Davidson will be doing a presentation on Database Design. See http://www.mem-pass.org for more details.
