  • All I am going to say is this, some people shouldn't be allowed to work with databases without direct supervision.
This could be related to certain posts here or to people with whom I work.

I wouldn't limit that to databases. Too many moroffs in the work force.

Sniff. But I like screwing with people's code... And dropping databases and unplugging servers...

Speaking of unplugging servers... We have a test box in the room with us here. It is a server but the casing looks "suspiciously" like a desktop. Boss forgot his laptop on Monday and found the test box, so just took it out the wall and moved it to his desk to boot up. After he noticed it was starting Server 2012 R2 he snuck it back, hoping nobody would notice.

Think he was a little heavy handed, as the server booted back up with most the DBs in Suspect Mode, as the SSD wasn't plugged in anymore.

I have to ask because I don't know... the cost of the cruise is something like $1,500 but that does NOT, apparently, cover the cost of being on the boat and having a stateroom.  So my questions are...
    1.  How much is the cost of the boat ride/stateroom and...
    2.  Where does the ~$1,500 go to?

    1. Varies. If I recall correctly, my room is $600 for the week.
    2. To the organizer, like other private events.

if you're really thinking about it Jeff, don't forget you have to get to the damn boat too. plane ticket, most likely, for us in the Midwest. Unless it's a great lakes cruise lol. "The Cruise of the Index Fitzgerald"

  • My employer is seriously concerned with the safety of its employees. Not only do we have DR for records, but we have DR & BC plans for the people as well and several tests of fire drills, etc.

So the latest to come out is a warning about the solar eclipse on Monday and how to protect our eyes and ourselves (if we're out and about driving during it). It's sweet if a little unexpected.

you should tell them that you would follow their advice, but you stared at the sun Friday because they hadn't warned you yet, and now you're blind.

Better yet, I'll type it up in the same email requesting a Braille keyboard. @=)

    After driving to work?

  • So the other day I was dropping the wife off at work and ran into one of my old co-workers, he and I got to chatting...

What does it say when you're told that your name comes up on a regular basis at a workplace you've not been at in 3 years, and apparently in a good way?
I mean, yeah, the wife still works there, but she'd mostly mention me as far as how I'm doing and what the two of us have done on our weekends sort of thing...

To top it off, he mentioned they're having some performance issues with a system (SQL-based) so I'm shooting him some scripts I use to track server activity to help him out...
