Steve Jones - SSC Editor - Thursday, March 23, 2017 11:39 AMOK, you've created paranoia. I'm manually backing up my phone to my desktop now.
Steve, I do that every so often normally. The contacts, pictures, movies, etc. all get backed up and I clean stuff off the phone. Yes, I have security in mind, but also backups. If the event of a SQL Server phone failure, what's my RPO?

Sean Lange - Friday, March 17, 2017 9:26 AMChad Crawford - Friday, March 17, 2017 9:12 AMThom A - Friday, March 17, 2017 8:10 AMI'm not even going to try and defend my English. I live in England, always have, and English is my only language. I, however, know all to well that I rarely proof read my posts, or my brain engages the wrong word, like their, there, or they're. My fingers especially like to auto type you're instead of your. >_<I know how to use them, I honestly just seem to not think about it until I read my post 5 minutes later, after someone has read and replied to it, and think "Oh god, what did I just write?!".
I did, however, proof read this post before posting, so if I've written something silly here, I really do look stupid. :hehe:
I tell people that I only know one language, but I'm not fluent. Hopefully that lowers their expectations. I did once write a lengthy text message to a neighbor who is an English professor and managed to misspell (or homophone) every single word. Eye cunsidered it quiet tha accomplushment four et tuk sum thyme two right. 😛

I have iCloud daily backups, and CrashPlan daily for both notebooks and desktop. However, since I can't schedule the desktop backup, I get worried. Dropbox gives me some protection if I catch errors quickly. Crashplan gets my Evernote stuff, though if I had an issue, I'd have to be careful to restore.

There's my weakness if the phone dies - the restore. I haven't practiced and have no real plans to do a restore. I'd either reset it to factory or take it to the store that sold it to me and tell them to fix it. I have my data because that's what's most important to me.
Then again, I'm a little weird when it comes to my phone. I view it as a phone that does a whole lot of other stuff, not a mission-critical device that drives my entire life. Maybe it's my age showing.
March 23, 2017 at 2:03 pm
I've had the chance to practice restores as I've upgraded my phone 3 times in the last few years. The restore works well.
It's not a mission critical device. Most of the data is elsewhere. Even the contacts, probably many are out of date and I could reproduce them. Most apps, I'll just add back if I need them.

The theory I read was that it was reused credentials from that massive LinkedIn breech, so no wrongdoing on Apple's side, just a lot of people with reused passwords.

Yeah that question is just awful. The answer could be literally anything and sadly the OP is so clueless they don't even know where to start.
