Ahem.... Back to the tasks at hand... πŸ˜€

Excellent! Good job helping the community.

Wait. We're supposed to be helping?

I signed up for SSC to mess with people's minds. No one ever said I was supposed to be helping!

    @=)

Are you saying that messing with people's minds isn't "helping"? Ah man! Now I have to reprioritize everything in my whole life!

When will people stop recommending Emergency mode repair as the default action with a suspect DB. That's about the 4th time I've seen that garbage this week.

Forget shrink database, I want that info to disappear permanently.

  • Any ideas? It's for me, and not critical, but I found it interesting:

Probably in SQL 18, when there are 100x more posts that say emergency mode is a bad idea than say try it.

The way to combat this is for more people to write a blog or post in a forum that "this is bad" and link to other posts rather than saying that Paul or Gail wrote one and read it. The nature of search engines is that more items that have the advice, and link together, move them up in the search results.

No, that was really good. Excellent description of exactly where he was going off the rails. Well done.

It looked good to me, I just suggested looking at a different tool.

  • Thanks, felt like I was timewarped back to writing record stores in the filesystem with C. Hard to explain to someone that has such a different view of how a data store works what SQL Server does.

True - at least I had a nice steak in the middle of it.

Thankfully I didn't feel the need to try and help clean up the rest of the horrific query!
