Any time we're feeling bad that maybe we took someone's head off (except for those times where you took aim and swung really hard), read this little thread. I was trying to research how to set up feeds in WordPress when I found this lovely guy, moshu, "Don't be lazy and do your homework..." Great help. Thanks, you male sexual appendage. I mean, wow! Steve would call us on the matt for that one.

FWIW, I found the easiest way to add feeds to categories is through feedburner. There are also plugins available for doing it - but I prefer the feedburner route.

I figured it out. Took 1/2 an hour or so. Several posts, including stuff on WordPress, were inaccurate.

Absolutely. I switched to feedburner ages back. Good move imho. The stats alone are worth it.

I had a similar concern, but very different topics, so I just started different blogs for each one. I have 6 and may start a 7th. They're all on my own domain.

I've gone Stefan's route. To me categories or tags are a way of filtering down the content to specific areas. So the T-SQL posts on my blog. However if I want to write about my family, or my advice on resumes, I made a separate blog. I can cross post, but ultimately there are people that want to follow the blog who don't want to see posts on other things.

Yeah, now that I have the domain & hosting & everything, I can see setting up a family blog.
I'm just shocked at how much work was masked off by running the blog directly on WordPress. It was easy to be lazy before. Now I'm actively working. But, the level of control is amazing, and finally getting google analytics, which wasn't possible when WordPress hosted, is great, although now i'm going to have to combine my metrics somehow for reporting to the MVP program... I'll work it out.

Question for those with their own websites.
Do you recommend using WordPress?

I've used Blogger & WordPress, both on their sites. WordPress was head & shoulders better. Now that I'm maintaining it myself... it's a lot of work, but there's a ton of flexibility & control. Not having maintained another one, I can't recommend it one way or the other, but hosting it on their site instead of yours, oh yeah, I recommend it.

Question for those with their own websites.Do you recommend using WordPress?
I did a ton of research on blogging software becuase my provider didn't support WordPress, multiple blogs, PHP on a Windows platform and a ton of other things. I ended up switching providers and using WordPress and I'm pretty happy with that decision. I like WordPress quite a bit, but I haven't used 1/10th of the options and power it has. I need to pick one blog to tart up as once I've done it on one of them, the others will be easier.

Steve,
I'd like to report Stefan's post because he's treating blogs like cheap dates. I bet you once he's done "tarting," he'll start pimping. What do you want to bet?
