Qu'elle gramaire!!!! :w00t: 😛
Et oui. J'aime bien mieux ecrire en anglais.
I think asking Steve to implement French grammar checking would be asking a bit too much.

This misconception is one that I'm getting sick of addressing:http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost989783.aspx
Or should I say 'trying to address'
I suspect the misconception arose because NTBackup was a bit naughty and would apparently squirrel away a transaction log backup (as well as a full backup) for any full recovery model databases on the system drive of the domain controller along with the rest of a system state backup whenever it did one (maybe this is fixed in Windows Backup and Restore Center, I don't know). Sysadmins/dbas who were stuck with databases on the PDC's system drive because there's nowhere else sensible to put them (because there's not enough money to buy the right hardware) and who started system state backups and full or incremental database backups all at the same time (probably 03:30 or thereabouts) probably didn't realise that the SS backup has broken the chain, so they thought it was their full (or differential) backup because it happened at about the right time. They could have reported their problems in all sorts of forums, and hence the myth.
I discovered this NT Backup behaviour the hard way (and was unable to find any way of recovering that log backup without doing a system state restore) but it was obvious to me that it was the SS backups that caused the problems because I was not crazy enough to have lots of database backups all scheduled to start at once at the same time as an SS backup. My workaround was to have full backups start immediately after each SS backup completed (my preferred workaround was buy another array for each affected system, but that included all the customer systems as well as the in-house ones and paying for all that would have bankrupted the company; and anyway I was already unpopular with the money men for insisting that all new systems shipping out use RAID 10 instead of RAID 5).

Is there any way to determine who deleted the database in sql server 2008.Look under tables and in cupboards for one of these
Isn't there a system table in the deleted database that has that information?
Or, just email the question to everyone, copy the boss, and whoever doesn't answer is your suspect 😉
I've found when I do this that the person that responds loudest that they didn't do it actually did. Somehow it is almost always the same person. lol

I don't know about these additional window function but I have really appreciated the window functions they added in sql 2005. When I first saw this note I thought you meant they were removing what they've already added in. Are the new proposed ones that important? I'm not sure but if you had asked me that about the ones they put in 2005 pre 2005 I probably would of said we don't need them. I'd rather see them further optimize what they currently have put into 2005 like making CTE's run better.
I think some of these things would be extremely useful provided the optimizer gets them right. Being able to use ORDER BY and ROWS BETWEEN would ensure that I never needed to use "quirky update" again, I think - and it might even get Jeff to rewrite his rather beautiful articles that use quirky update so that they used windowed functions instead. So I've voted for some of them.
