RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

I'm sure that I read someone's blog/article about how table variables can be indexed during the declaration of the variable, and I think it was outside even of a primary key, but I can't find it anywhere. Anybody remember that/know where I could find it?

Found this, which is similar, but not exactly what I remembered.

    Thx

Just got back from a long weekend. Don't know if you got a better answer yet... have you looked at this article?[/url]

Thanks Wayne, I did figure it out with Gail/Paul/Dave's help, but I'll bet your article is where I remembered reading it. Thanks for the link back to it!

I actually like livemeeting, works better than some of the others I've been involved with, especially for feedback during the meeting (status color thingy) meetingplace and webex are the ones I've used specifically. We even have Telepresence units installed here at work, think $10,000 web cams. ridiculous.

Anyhoo, I was really hoping your session would make Community Choice Jeff, sorry that it didn't. I think I got 3 out of 4, but can't remember if I voted for one of them or not, since I liked several sessions in the BI section.

and I gotta say, I was tempted to vote for Sean's session strictly because of the title, nothing more. Made me laugh out loud while I was voting.

The folks in our local PASS group use LiveMeeting, as well. It does some funny stuff to PPT presentations. Screws up the font, etc.

On the Community Choice thing... absolutely no worries. I'm surprised that it even made a voting spot because of the competition from 2K8 HierarchyID and a bunch of other spots on hierarchies not to mention the other great sessions folks had up there. Guess I'll have to publish the new method right here on SSC, eh?

Heh... thanks for the "link" before. It actually does look pretty good if you limit to 5 or fewer connections. Still going through the site.

For powerpoint to work best via LiveMeeting you should upload the powerpoint to the server and it "formats" it for Live Meeting.

Yeah, the thing I was going for was not having to download anything to use it on the receiving end, which seems to be bogus, my brother (guinea pig that he is) apparently had to download something in order to open it, and since he was at work, that was a no-go.

Price is about right, though 😉

I would appreciate if any of you who are going to use remote speakers, or are going to broadcast your user group meetings, could post the URL in here. We're considering trying either/both for our PASS Chapter and I'd like to see what the experience is like for the remote viewer.

I got the chance to catch most of Grant's presentation to Jason's group the other night. From a technology point of view, I was happy with how it worked. Great presentation too. I learned quite a bit about reading execution plans.

    Grant,

What technology did you use? Other than "GOTO MEETING", I've never done a remote presentation before.

LiveMeeting. I've used it a bunch of times so far. It's very simple to share the desktop, video, voice. Works fine.

Curious, when you're presenting remotely folks don't have a webcam pointing at the crowd at all? Seems like that should be a gimme, otherwise you could be talking to yourself in a closet, which can get boring after an hour or two.

You can have a camera on the crowd, but honestly, I can't focus on that and what I'm saying at the same time. It's not like talking in person where I can work eye contact while I say something. Plus, if you're sharing your desktop, in order to look at the video of the people, the people are looking at the video of the people looking at the video of the people looking at the...

flipping recursion... where was I? Anyway, you get the idea.

  • I'd certainly like to try it with a camera on the crowd. I did one remote one for the Charlotte group and struggled to present to an empty room.

  • Attn: all User Group presentation coordinators. I've been working on converting my article on Comparing Table Variables with Temporary Tables[/url] into a presentation. If you're interested in having me do a remote presentation, PM me. Just be forewarned - it's been many years since I've given presentations, so I'm sure that the first few will show how rusty I am with this. I can provide a PP slidedeck and code samples to enable you to decide, if necessary

Thanks. I shall decline to comment on PASS further at this time.

I'm pretty sure we all feel the same disappointment about the PASS decision and the same confusion about the reason given.

Wise move in not making any further comments. There's probably nothing beneficial that can be said at this time.

I'm pretty sure that the PASS decision does not reflect the feelings of the majority of PASS members.

Hang in there. WE are still behind you!!

PASS' loss. I'm shocked. It is their loss and they probably don't realize it.

I've been considering joining PASS for a while and getting more involved with the community. This seals the deal for me not to join PASS. An organization that cannot take a little criticism from a revered community leader isn't and organization I want to associate with.
