Merry Christmas 2013

,

Merry Christmas to everyone in the SQLServerCentral community.

I know most of you have today off from work, but I'm sure there are more than a few of you that either need to work, don't celebrate Christmas, or are just looking for something to read as you glance at email.

I've got a blooper reel for your today, probably the last one I'll do. As much as I've enjoyed doing the podcasts and sharing the bloopers, I need to free up time for other projects. As a result, I'm going to wind down the video podcasts this year. I will continue with the audio versions.

Giving Back

The spirit of giving is hopefully in many of you today. With that in mind, I wanted to share a few thoughts.

SQLServerCentral was started as a business, with the idea that it would seek to make a profit. However, it was a business that also spoke to the founders. We had a desire to help others, to share our knowledge, and make the SQL Server world a little bit better.

I have worked for some businesses that feel the same way, wanting to make a profit, but also willing to give back to the community. I've also worked for businesses that sought a profit above all else, with every other consideration far below, and often unwilling to give back to any other part of the community in which they engaged in their business. Across many jobs, I much prefer companies that give back to those that don't.

However you choose to live your life, and conduct your business, I hope that you remember, believe, and act as part of a community of some sorts. That you choose to share your knowledge, help others, and try to make the world a better place.

Happy Holidays to all, and I hope that you have a peaceful, enjoyable day.
