I just checked. Almost everything in the db for forums is an int, so we're fine.
As an FYI, we have about 5GB of data in the forum database.

I'm not sure about what the differences are. I would suspect there are some changes, but likely enhancements. I'd think if something worked against 2008 it would work with R2,...

If I remember correctly, a "change" doesn't rebuild the table. It adds the field to the end of the fixed size columns on each page, and marks the old column...

Log shipping is a DR technology. Not a reporting technology, which is where you're having issues.
What you can do is use SSIS instead. You might still need a log shipped...
