    • an IDENTITY column for the PK and just index datetime
    • any other unique column for the PK and just index the time

    It's all about revenue from MS standpoint. From ours it's primarily stability then support followed by features. 5 year cycles are just fine (and probably more realistic). 2 year cycles are OK...
