while trying to connect from SSMS I am able to connect when I use SQL14\SQLCluster14 only.
That is correct, the instance connection is made to
networkname\instancename
so

why would you need both AG and vmotion?
VMotion is the mechanism VMware uses to migrate a running VM from one host to another.
An Availability group provides redundant copies...

If, by mounted volumes, you mean drive letters that point to LUNs on a SAN, then yes, it works fine.
No the user is referring to volumes that mount...

modify does not allow the user to take control of any folders or files within the parent folder where the permissions are granted (assuming inheritance has not been disabled).
