  • RE: Should I Buy a Kindle?

I know what you mean, SLHope, but it's not the appearance of the screen that's the issue for me. There's been quite a bit of research into all the extra...

  • RE: Should I Buy a Kindle?

I'd echo what ISM's said; reading from books is, for me, far easier on the eyes than reading from screen (and that's despite my having several laptops at my disposal,...

  • RE: MS SQL Server

None of the reasons mentioned for SQL Server's growth in popularity would have had much weight were it not for SQL Server's (IMHO) strongest point, and that's reliability.

    People choose Oracle...

  • RE: Easy or Hard

I think Steve sums it up with the phrase, "the tools we use should be ergonomic, but not simplistic". I can think of no instance where making something easier to...

  • RE: Largest Unit

    Jamie Longstreet (4/25/2008)

There is always the ....... googalplex

Is that like opening up a search engine on a multiplex cinema screen?

  • RE: The Inmates in Charge

    Another thought or two....

Who're the people least likely to patch their PCs if it's their responsibility to do so? I'd say it's either the busiest ones or the ones who...

  • RE: Upgrading SQL Server 2005

    Jamie Longstreet (4/10/2008)

The way the question is worded - you can upgrade to any and all... is dubiously worded. You cannot upgrade a SQL 2005 Evaluation to SQL 2000...

  • RE: Historical Dollars

Salary history? You live and learn. I never actually knew this was something anyone did.

For me, I wouldn't let my prospective employer know my last salary, let alone a full...

  • RE: Upgrading SQL Server 2005

Although even in Vivien's link, the sentence before the "strong recommendation" states that it can be done. If MS send that out in their documentation, they have an obligation to...

  • RE: Storage Size

How is it that so many people can notice all kinds of issues with QOTDs, yet fail to notice their point already previously made in the ensuing discussion thread? Is...

  • RE: ORDER BY

Glad you took it that way, Shaun. When I reread my post, I realised I'd forgotten the smiley. Please take it as read that it was meant to be there.

  • RE: ORDER BY

    Sub QOTD_Threadpost

    for n = 1 to Ubound(PeoplesPatience)

print "But it works in my environment!"

print "Have you checked the DB compatibility mode?"

    if instr(weekdayname(weekday(Now)), "y") then

    Shaunpost()

    end if

    threadstring$ = threadstring$ + bloodnockjoke(Rnd)

    loop

    end sub

  • RE: Storage Size

I agree with Hugo; I thought this was a good question.

Being before my second morning cuppa, I misread nvarchar, so neglected to factor unicode into my calculations, and so got...

  • RE: Query

    A question intended to test

was misworded, so wasn't the best.

    Calls of "I've been mistreated"

    were incessantly repeated,

so come on, guys; please give it a rest.

  • RE: Query

Doh! datename - look up the function dude!

takes the raw data and uses the full string of the name so when your field has a datetime type

    datename(m, datetime_field)...
