    For me partitioning is about manageability first and performance second.

    Your MDF is 500MB with 8 years growth? I'm not so sure you need to go down this...

    I am going to guess and this is from memory, that it is the mapped drives that were the problem!

    I would in general suggest staying away from putting SQL...
