Nope. I've done multiple installs with no issues like this. It sounds like you had a problem during the installation or you found a bug.

You'd need to show the actual execution plan in order to make any guesses at what's needed to tune the query. One suggestion, see if there are ways to limit...

Try moving the WHERE clause into the ON clause of the OUTER JOIN.
Also, make sure your statistics are up to date.

Start capturing execution metrics. This will at give you some indications as to what is regularly referenced and what isn't. Be prepared to capture a lot of data though. Since...

The defaults for the 2012 install should be for traditional. If not, go to Tools, Options, Keyboard & change it to the default. That's one fight with the development team...
