    Remember to have the stored proc check the input value is formatted properly, or else the same error problem...

    What's wrong with a bigint identity(1, 1) or any starting point after 1. Bigint is 8 bytes, half that of uniqueidentifier. Granted, it's not as "professional" looking as...
