    The remote tns_admin works fine for tnsping, but fails in sql server linked servers, I will try reconfiguring for local tomorow, like my other server that works and hopefully...

    The Visual Studio components that are installed with SQL Server do not require any additional licensing outside of the SQL Server licensing itself.

    You should try the SQL Server Native Client provider.

    I thought this was only for connections to other SQL Servers?

    I tried it and it doest work anyway.
