Steve I very much appreciate the effort you and the crew take to keep our information both secure and out of the hands of marketers. At this point, I've lost track of how many breaches my data has been in, both private company breaches and once (so far) from my current employer.
Sometimes as DBAs the best we can do is point out "hey, this is a REALLY bad thing in the database" (of course, depending on if you're also the Dev or not, determines if you can do more about it), explain WHY it's a bad thing / risk, and then management will decide whether to allocate resources or not to fix the problem. The issue of course, being that IF (or worse, when) that bad thing results in a breach, the manager who said "no, we need to get the new features out, not fix that" will more than likely be standing behind you pushing you in front of the blame train.

Steve, I also thank you for the care and concern you and others with SQL Server Central took to protect users' privacy! In the past I had to enter personal data into certain financial businesses forms and websites, which today no one would dare ask today. Because they said either you give us this information, or you cannot use our services, well, we were stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've regretted that ever since, but on the other hand, we wouldn't have a roof over our heads if we didn't do that.
Anyway, thank you for being concerned about people's privacy back when many companies couldn't care less.
Rod
