I seem to continuously have major problems when posting a response in the forum and including a link. I use the link button but all the text after that is still the link. Even I go back and delete the link I can't seem to remove the link. It has left me so frustrated that I have several times just given up posting a comment because the software is so broken. Does anybody else have this issue?

No problem for me. Which browser are you using (I use Chrome).
If you haven't even tried to resolve your issue, please don't expect the hard-working volunteers here to waste their time providing links to answers which you could easily have found yourself.

Firefox. It is really quite irritating. It has been going on for quite some time, I guess I just never mentioned it before. Maybe I will try this site with Chrome.

What they really need to do is fix the forum software. One of the primary faults with these forums is the inability to do a simple cut and paste of code and results, which seems a little bit important on an SQL Server forum. 😉 The same holds true with many other things including links. For me, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
I worked with the vendor of the forum software on the subject of pasting code for about a week last summer. Obviously, no joy has come of that.
This is one of the largest SQL Server forums in the world and (apparently) they won't invest the time or money to make it work right. Not exactly and example of the parent company putting its best foot forward and, yes RedGate, that's of an intentional slam.

I've had the issue. If you make the link the last text of the post, you can't type anything after it without being part of the link. I make sure I have a carriage return or text after the link.

I've had the problem since the new software. Using Firefox.
It seems it may be related to whatever happens that causes the cursor to be a letter behind when typing...some odd character somewhere after a new line. I try to remember to hit the cursor right arrow key (whatever its called) before pasting the link which usually seems to work.
But once it starts, I haven't figured out how to get rid of it and usually just delete the response I was trying and walk away. Incredibly frustrating
Same type of thing when the first word on a line is showing as misspelled and it isn't. Show the suggestions and it's obviously not seeing the word. Backspace out the word and you do an extra backspace so some other character is in there somewhere.

Yeah even if I put a carriage return after it the issue won't go away. The post I was trying earlier I actually deleted the entire link and any text I typed was still the link that was no longer even visible other than the text I was typing. The text editor is so incredibly user hostile that at least for me this forum has become an afterthought. It is such a great community and atmosphere but the software is almost unusable. Sad really because this was the absolute best forum anywhere prior to the forum software "update" a year ago.

Asking again, rumor control said that you good folks were going to deploy a set of fixes in February. Since that doesn't appear to have happened, any near term plans that we can look forward to?

had this issue plenty of times. I make a habit (now) of typing everything, and then the last thing I do is add the hyperlinks. The only problem is if the last piece of text I put in is a hyperlink, and I need to edit my post. Then all the extra text I add with be part of that hyperlink. I use Firefox as well, and I have the problem both on Windows and Ubuntu; so seems to be browser specific. The pasting problem I have, however, does not seem to be browser specific (although each one has different quirks, with IE being the worst).

We have an RFP out for some work, so the upgrade was delayed. GDPR and other business issues have caused resources to be used elsewhere. Ultimately, this is a lower priority item for our IT group.

Understood but I'm confused a bit. I thought these problems were caused by the 3rd party forum code. That's supposedly why I worked with the 3rd party vendor last summer on many of the posting problems. With that meager understanding on my part, why doesn't the vendor fix their own code instead of you folks having to do it?

I've had the same problem with the new software. How I address it is:
1. Where I'm ready to paste a link, I use Ctrl-V to paste the text.
2. Click the mouse beyond the link I pasted. This is necessary because using paste repositions the cursor somewhere else and I can't just continue typing.
3. I then type something after it, even if it's only a space or period. Something has to come after the pasted text.
4. Using the mouse, select the text of the link I pasted in and hit Ctrl-C to copy it.
5. Then use the Link button to link the text. If the link isn't created automatically and the dialog is displayed, I can paste in the URL I just copied.
In theory, step 4 is completely unnecessary, but it becomes necessary if I type anything between steps 1 and 4. Copying and pasting is just a natural part of typing for me, so I developed a habit of doing step 4 so I don't have to close the dialog, copy the URL and click the Link button again.
Is it a PITA? Of course. Has the frustration factor of the editor cut down on my posting? Absolutely. Do I believe the problems will be fixed eventually? Yes.

I did the same thing last summer. I gave them a multi-level outlined list of all the stuff I found. Some of it was fixed and some of it wasn't. What's surprising is that they didn't keep a list of the stuff they didn't fix and use it as a hit list of what to do next. User feedback, especially from the types of people on this site, is invaluable and assessing how a site is used. I'd think that they'd want to use every bit of it they could get.

The third party vendor code is the issue, but we have integration points. Taking their upgrade is a testing effort that has been deferred. I have asked for this to proceed, but since we have an RFP out for other work, no one wanted to change anything for the time being

I understand your frustration, and I have some as well. However, we all build software. The reports from customer A or user B aren't necessarily a list that dictates what work is done. There are all sorts of competing items, so I can understand why everything hasn't been fixed. I'm not sure what has been tackled, but I know that some of the things you report, I don't experience, and likely the reverse is true.
