Anyone have anything funny, interesting or weird to talk about today? I'm bored. My main subjects of conversation so far today have been politics (Obamacare passed the House late yesterday), or my re-wedding (wife and I did a renewal of vows on Saturday).
I'm saturated on politics, but if you're interested in the ceremony, I could write about that.
So, how many years??
real years, not what it felt like. 😛

A consulting company here installed a SQL clustered Server with two nodes and they didn't even take the time to inform me. I don't know who decided to install a new sever, who decided this instance could not fit into the existing servers, who decided the way the instances were to be configured.
Now the physical disks are full because nobody is taking backups and the users are complaining.
Does this fall into the "funny" category?

'Tis one of the reasons I scan my local networks with SQL Ping at least once per quarter, even though it sends our HIPS monitors through the roof.

Going on 15 for me. Feels like about 5 - until I try to remember details of those early years. It's hard to remember facts from 15 years ago, let alone 4.

Well, I'm going to try and get myself to finally take one of the MS Exams.
I'm going to see if I can prepare myself for: 70-433 Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Database Development

I do the same sort of thing about as frequently. People have complained in the past. I just say it is required for the job.

Coming up on 24 this September. First 4 dragged compared to the last 20. Having kids makes time fly apparently.

Scenario: Backup prod and restore to a "reporting server." Usage on the reporting server is next to nothing. Reporting server is sql 2005 and the prod is sql 2000. Absolute resistance to upgrade the prod server to 2005 because of "compatibility" issues. Yet we can point the apps to the reporting server in case of emergency. Furthermore, I found a job on the Prod server that calls a dts package to create indexes on the reporting server. The indexes do not exist on the prod server. I am removing the job and package and creating the indexes on the prod server.
Does this qualify as funny?

They're consultants, they automatically know better than anyone else. Why on earth would they deign to tell you anything? </arrogant consultant tone> 😛
