I guess that's part of what I mean... why wouldn't you correct the original blog?I can think of one other reason not to edit the original blog, if there are comments to the effect of "uhh... this doesn't work this way..." with the blog post corrected, those comments are going to be out of place. If there aren't any comments, well, then it's the blog owner's choice, isn't it? 😀
Yeah, that too.

Just get someone to tap your shin with a baseball bat. You'll stop thinking about your back for at least an hour.

Don't reply for a while. Let's see if he gets a bit anxious for some results. 😉

I just posted a reply.
He probably needs to migrate to nested sets hierarchies, anyway.

First & absolutely most important, it gave me a new blog post. Gotta have new things to blog about. But also, I don't like editing posts too much, especially to completely rewrite them, as it would have required in this case. Instead I just put a link and explanation that, to paraphrase My Cousin Vini, everything I just wrote was BS.
Ah... got it. Thanks, Grant.

I suppose... but, Grant built an entirely new page. Why not simply cover the mistake by taking what would have gone on an entirely new page and simply replace the original page?

Why not simply cover the mistake by taking what would have gone on an entirely new page and simply replace the original page?
Couple possible reasons.
- It would have required deleting the comments that were on the original blog post. If the comments were left, they'd look completely out of place.
- People using rss readers may not have noticed that the post changed, many of them just look for new posts, and so those people wouldn't read the new material.
- Those who do actually visit the site may not read older posts. I know I don't if it's a blog I frequently visit.
- On a syndicated blog (which both Grant's and mine are), changes don't propagate to the syndication site immediately, if at all. The way SQLServerPedia seems to be set up, changes get picked up days later and syndicated as a new post

On a more positive note, a question that made me think, "CAN you do that" ?

Okay, I'll bite. Why is that one surprising?

Just simply because after 10 years+ of solid TSQL work, i'd never needed to do that.

Makes sense. That's why I hang out on this site, to learn new stuff. Always do.
