When are you coming to Belgium? We are currently in a heat wave, so bring sunscreen πŸ™‚

Week after next. Next week is in the UK.

Prediction currently is still over 25 degrees for the beginning of that week, so that's great πŸ™‚

I liked Belgium when I visited. The beer does help of course πŸ˜€ Must go back again soon.

Grant when and where will you be in the UK?

Don't stand a chance of catching up in person, but I thought I'd check just in case you end up just up the road!

    Rodders...

Heading back to the Redgate Mothership for reprogramming. I'll be in Cambridge all next week. Then the weekend in London with the family.

Cool. Then same deal as with Steve, I drive back Friday afternoons, traffic permitting, I can pop into the office, with very little diversion from my main route. If you are about I can say hi, if like with Steve you are out and about, no problems... Just let me know! If not then I guess is SQL in the City London and then Seattle!

Yesterday was ridiculous in the UK - 34C.. and in an office with no A/C.

Yesterday it was about 35C, and I was working from home with no A/C.

Today it's about the same, but now in office with A/C so no issues πŸ™‚

This Saturday we might reach 40C, which is a all-time record for Belgium.

Sounds good to me... were you in the garden sipping on a cool beverage too? I know I would've.

At some point in time, yes. Then it became too hot πŸ™‚

Didn't measure the temperature in the Central Line tube yesterday but I've been in Saunas which were cooler

    😎

  • Luckily we have air con in the office, but the 25 minute walk in the morning is making me look like I've been in a sauna. Boy did the heat hit me when I left last night.

It's odd and fun at the same time having weather like this at the moment.

It seems it's morphed into a water-cooler chat over time.

Yep, definitely a water cooler, but we do from time to time, get back on track with the original topic!

Yesterday was ridiculous in the UK - 34C.. and in an office with no A/C.

That's not so good. Neither were the delays on the train network - it took an hour longer than usual to get home to Reading from Leamington last night.

The upside is the pure awesomeness of a cold beer in a warm garden.

I decided to pop into M&S and pick up some burgers for the evening BBQ. Due to the train issues I was stranded for 2 hours and got home to a bag of melted meats.... yeah..

How do people keep their jobs when it is obvious they are dependent on the good will of strangers on the internet to diagnose and resolve database issues, especially some who have been working with SQL Server for at least 10 years.

No to bring politics into this but in such a liberal society is very difficult to terminate somebody. It used be you didn't like that person so got sent packing. These days you have to documented proof of rules violations, competence has nothing to do with tenure at a job anymore.

You're right. Competency, drive, determination and learning are barely even a part of the criteria any longer.
