We just need to be careful: once we're short on apostrophes, quite a few letters (including the "blank") will be in highe demand, too. (It's vs. it is not, won't vs. will not a.s.o.).Maybe then fantasy and sci-fi authors will stop inflicting things like B'Z'or'ef, K'chak'!'op and Ph'nglui Mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh on us.
You are a H'op'E'les's Op't'imi's't'. And you read too much S'tar T'rek'.
Only one of those is from StarTrek.
Actually, you can get more apostrophes from Yog Sothoth's material than from Cthulhu.
Apparently, if you have a voicebox that doubles as a contortionist and can pronounce this correctly, it will raise the dead:
Y'AI'NG'NGAH
YOG-SOTHOTH
H'EE-L'GEB
F'AI TRHODOG
UAAAAH
I have a character in City of Heroes (online comic book RPG) named Xzandtrz, based on the whole Cthulhu bit. He commands an army of zombies and liches, and is in charge of a villain group called "Unpronouceable Evil". Not enough apostrophes in his name, true, but you should see his biography! All based on the Yog Sothoth stuff.

Apologies in advance for the change in topic... 😀
I want to do a presentation for the SQL saturday that will be conducted in Curacao. Can I have some suggestions on what topic I should do? DBA tracks are what I know better. 🙂

You just have to link the t to the next vowel in that context.
And because there's a final t in the verb, you don't have to write another one; while the singular (well, for regular verbs with infinitive in -er or -re anyway) doesn't end with t so it has to be added. "existe-t-il" as against "existent-ils". It would make more sense to drop the "nt" from the plural verb so that it too could use "-t-", but French spelling is nearly as crazy as English and will not change.
Also Pourquoi is a single word.
Also Pour and quoi are two words, and while "Pourquoi" is required if the question is about cause I was taught when I did a short course at the Petit Lycé Condorcet (when I was about 15) that it was possible to use either the single word or the two if the question was about purpose/finality. So if the required answer is "Parce que..." the question must be "Pourquoi..." but if the required answer is "Pour...." or "Afin que...." either "Pourquoi" or "Pour quoi" can be used. In this case the question is definitely about finality, so "Pour quoi" is OK and is useful in precluding unwanted answers about cause (the answer is "Afin qu'il y ait quelques-uns qui nous étonnent").
And
it's spellingits spelling (and yes I know I'm not to one to talk on that one!).
You meant "it's" there. "its" is the possessive pronoun.
My French spelling used to be much better than my English spelling, but I'm not sure which is worse now.

The real short answer here is :
Why = Pourquoi
What for = Pour <space> quoi.
In the case of your sig, it's definitely 1 word.

I think it's a sickness of mine, but I enjoy corny geek jokes.
Jeff - congratulations. You rock. 'nuff said.
My mother in law just died last night. Been a rough few weeks. She was old and in a nursing home for a while, so it was expected. Still not fun though.

I feel you. I've also seen the other extreme where the person doesn't even recognize her own children & couldn't get out of bed or eat alone, for the last 15 years of her life.

Tough call. Have you done a presentation on the resource governor to your user group?

Yes, I did the presentation for my user group on resource governor. Only 12 people attended it. So there is still a big chunk out there that has not seen that presentation.

Sorry to hear about that. My father-in-law died this past January and my father is in the hospital on end of life care, so I can relate.
