Are the posted questions getting worse?

I don't understand why it's necessary, the ITP's are supposed to be the TS and then some.

Exactly, they're the TS and them some extra stuff that's covered in the second exam.

I need to schedule the two BI ones. Perferably before July when the price goes up. Going to write them cold, no studying. Will be fun, as I barely work with SSAS.

I may wait until after the price change for those two. I could try them cold but the mdx, cubes, administration associated with SSAS would get me.

It may well get me too, but I figure if I can ace a Sharepoint exam never having installed the product, I should be able to get through a BI exam wher I have worked on the material covered..

Data mining and KPIs will probably be my downfall.

You know, that is a very valid point. I guess with a free second shot, it's a way of figuring out weak areas to focus on for study.

This ORM link was just pointed out to me: EntityFramework 4.1 RC – Code first; review.

Wondering what you'll think of the "Lack of good identifiers generators" section? Especially the "any DBA will agree" part...

I'm tempted to agree that identity fields are bad, so long as it's understood that most other solutions to this are worse.

  • I don't have the dev exams for the MCM, but I could take the test. I assume if I passed I'd have to go backfill the dev exams to get awarded the actual MCM.

However since I'm not sure I'll get there, not looking to worry about the dev exams for now.

That is the reason for me doing both MCITP sets - long term goals. Not sure there would be much value otherwise.

Hehe, the worst part of that is where I grew up Bellvue hospital was the local asylum. So my initial thoughts when I saw the links after following along was "Yeah, we're pretty much nuts, that seems right."

    I love Gails answer here.

Hey, he asked for a course in the Seattle area. That's in the Seattle area. It's a higher level course. It is mostly administration.

    I don't see a problem here...

    😀

Perfect response for the question. I should have done it too but didn't have the gumption at the moment.

For any interested, my recent exam experience is posted.

Nice job Jason! I'm a little late posting since I've been traveling since SQLRally ended.

I too have no certs and am studying for my very first one. I'll take it when I get a few more clock cycles to get back to it. Phew. Tons of activity working on some cool UG stuff here in Austin, TX with Wes.

I am glad that you took the cert test and passed. That is great.

That's what I like to see - going for it on what you know, no cramming. Mind you "I barely work with SSAS" suggests you have more self-confidence than I would have (or maybe that "barely work with" means something different when you write it from what it would mean if I wrote it).

  • @tom, how is your article (series) on Normalization going? I'm really looking forward to that one, since I'm supposed to hold some talks for our junior developers on various topics regarding SQL in general, and would like to see how other people approach that particular topic. Yes, I know you were very vocal on the Normalization thread a few weeks ago, very good read (apart from the mudslinging that went on in there), but the discussion was a titbit too much on the academic side to be presentable to "newbies" (I admit it was way over my head at times as well).

As an aside, I was asked to do these presentations for our Technology Readiness program at our company to earn the right to go to the PASS summit this year. Am really looking forward to meeting all you great people! And yes, I voted for all the sessions you guys have submitted. If I left someone out, my apologies, but there's such a lot of stuff to choose from. In fact, I'll have a hard time deciding which ones to attend once I get there.

@tom, how is your article (series) on Normalization going?

I sent the first one to Steve a while back, waiting for feedback - 1NF is the most difficult to describe (2,3,and 4 are easy, 5 less so but not as hard as 1) and also I want to get Steve's feedback before doing teh others - want to make sure it's all in the shape he wants. Maybe I'll do the 2NF one and send him it without waiting - it's the easiest one of all to describe.

Yeah, slowly I'm thinking that as well.
