Are the posted questions getting worse?

...Don't like IE, haven't tried IE9, but if it's like Chrome, why move?

Because Chrome isn't perfect either 😉

SSC was particularly bad with Chrome for a while and I just got fed up with it.

Most sites are 'optimized' for IE - by which I mean most development effort, particularly early effort, goes into making it work well with IE - and probably FireFox too. Chrome not so much.

Browsers are a very personal choice, of course.

MS have presented me with an option to install an additional browser to IE

I don't exactly follow. I have not seen what you are talking about.

    Jim

I ran some MS updates and an icon appeared with a choice of browsers to install. It has a note with it - 'BrowserChoice.eu was designed in accordance with a competition law decision issued by the European Commission in December 2009.'

Maybe it does not apply in the states.

Thanks for the replies so far.

  • Hey Paul - BTW, congrats on the MVP award! And I dig the light little 'MVP' on your avatar/icon. Not very obvious, but still visible.

Good golly, I missed it! I missed them both, in fact. Gail has recently gone over the 23K post mark and I passed the 25K post mark some time in the last week.

If I wouldn't have met you in person, for sure I would have thought you were some kind AI bots :hehe:

Good! The ruse continues to work! 🙂

It was an absolute pleasure to finally get to meet you as PASS, Johan.

    No, no, no you don't,

    Loop with any class!

    Merrily! Merrily! Merrily! Merrily!

    Set-based saved my _____!

Nice one. I was actually expecting something from you like:

Row, row, row by [agonizing] row

    Gently gatherin' streams

    Barely, barely, barely, barely

    Moving slow it seems.

    Boy, these are getting bad.

BWAA-HAAA!!!! Thanks for the laugh, Jim!

  • A few (ten or more, I think) years ago I used Opera for everything (only browser that existed then with GUI in my language) but eventualy decided it had too many limitations, but that was back in the days when many websites had some non-standard MS JScript that nothing but IE would run (not to mention using hordes of MS-only activeX controls). After that I used IE for a fairly short time, but got tired of disinfecting my machine (this was a few versions ago). Currently I mostly use Firefox with some security addons (noscript and BetterPrivacy) but I'm somewhat pissed off with the Beta release Gaidhlig language version of release 4 because it doesn't support most of the plugins that I used with the previous release (including it doesn't support the XStandard XHTML editor, so I will have to go back to release 3 if that isn't fixed soon). I use IE8 (I'm still on XP on my laptop, so can't go to IE9) but quite rarely (although its cookie control is a lot better than Firefox's, which keeps on making me wonder whether I should ditch Fiorefox altogether). I also use Opera occasionally because I'm trying to evaluate it against Mozilla (first reaction: it's slighly cleaner, but slightly slower - but must spend more time on that evaluation). Recently I tried Chrome briefly, but looked at the privacy implications and ditched it (Google is evil - but very convenient).

Of course if I want to work in Gaidhlig, I've only Opera and Mozilla to choose from - for all Google's boasts about Chrome being the browser with automatic translation their range of languages covered is pretty thin (and the translations are generally pretty appalling; missing out NOTs when translating from Celtic or Romance languages to English seems to be the norm).

Combined with the Easter Holiday last weekend as well, April is not going to be the most productive month.

Loads of people took last week off completely.

PITA if you are looking for a job, all the decision makers are out of the office.

All sorted on that front now though 🙂 well its 90% done , still havent signed.

Same here. Easter friday, Easter Monday, Wednesday was Freedom Day, Sunday is Worker's day, and Monday becomes a public holiday, because the public holiday falls on a sunday.

    Work, what work?

  • Slightly different over here in Germany: if a holiday falls on a Sunday (as it happens with May 1st this year), we won't get a public holiday during the week (e.g. following Monday or previous Friday).

This year is particulary "bad" in terms of holidays falling on Sunday: May 1st, Christmas Day, Jan 1st 2012, and one or two more I can't remember right now.

But I won't complain either: unlike in other countries we have quite a few days available for paid vacation...

  • Thanks for the replies on the browser. Chrome seems to just about get the nod and firefox seems to have the most technical issues so Chrome it is. I don't need to translate to Gaidhlig (whats that?) Tom, so that shouldn't be a problem for me!

It will just be a backup, I will continue to use IE as first option.

    cheers
