Wahoo! Just passed 70-454. I am now officially SQL 2008 DBD ITP. π Yipee!Congrats Chad... happy for you... π
Now would you like to explain to me what the heck is DBD ITP is? Database Developer ? ITP?
I think DBD ITP stands for Don't Be Denied In Tungstin Pants. I could be wrong tho:-Pugh...
π
Microsoft has three certification tracks that pertain to SQL Server - Database Developer, Database Administrator and Business Intelligence Developer. Each track has two levels, Technology Specialist (MCTS) and IT Professional (MCITP). The 70-454 test is an upgrade from 2005 to 2008, 1 test (to rule them all) straight to 2008 Database Developer IT Professional.
Now... whether or not certifications have value is a separate discussion, one that I will not start here :-).
Ah - I forget about the MCM (Microsoft Certified Master), which is still pretty rare. Our illustrious leader Steve has some experience there that he might share someday perhaps.
Thanks,
Chad
Awesome. I figured it was something like that, but had no clue about the specifics.

Not too bad. I spent a reasonable amount of time brushing up in preparation and scored well. I'm trying to help a co-worker get ready so we've been studing together and that helped. Thanks for the blog post on your MCM experience. I didn't realize that the MCM had changed from the weeks-long Redmond session. That makes it more interesting, but it looks like it would still require travel for me to take the tests.

Congrats. I need to get that cert. The new features in 2008 are killing me though since I'm working with 2005 at the office.

No, but I suspect it has to do with log growth. Since the mirror's down, the principal's log can't be truncated, is growing. That makes it harder for the log reader to read, especially if the growth increments are small and VLFs tiny.

It may be something in that direction.
I have no experience with the combination, but it is strange that the log replication also freezes when the mirror is down.

Somewhere, the gods are laughing at me... I've started a twitter account.
Now, my one saving grace is I won't be able to get there from work and my phone is an antique... no apps for me! Whee!

I have no experience with the combination, but it is strange that the log replication also freezes when the mirror is down.
Question is, is it freezing or is the log reader taking so long in navigating the log that it's timing out or restarting? I've had cases where excessively large log (badly managed) plus lots of very small transactions left the log reader failing and retrying constantly. Was SQL 2000, so may have improved.
