Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Speaking of WordPress, I think I may convert the Memphis PASS Chapter website to a WordPress site (my own host, not WordPress.com). Any WordPress users here have any comments to make? I don't see any reason why WordPress would be a bad choice, but maybe somebody else does.

I think it is a fine choice. I'm planning on setting up a multiple user one soon, if you're curious I'll let you know how it goes.

Alvin, I'm not sure if this will be an issue for long, but recently WordPress has been suffering from DDoS attacks.

Yeah, but that's the WordPress.com site. He should be fine as he'll host it himself.

It's great. Go for it. Just research your provider & pick once. Moving between providers is a nightmare.

I already have a provider, and I did move a WP site to it last weekend. It was fairly painless.

I haven't decided yet what to do with users. Not sure I need to create user unless I let them blog of the group site. I know I'll need some sort of user setup for a forum, but I'm not sure about those details yet.

Yeah, by multi-user I meant mutiple people all blogging with their own handles on the same blog.

  • Be careful about setting your own host. WordPress.com isn't a bad solution, and as long as you have a few people to admin it, it makes sense.

Just think beyond yourself. If you decide to leave, the group shouldn't have its site fail.

That's a good point and I have thought of that. I do have an escape plan in case that should happen. It does include at least another admin and another host that the site could be moved to.
