What are peoples thoughts on the remaining 5 candidates? The only one I really know anything about is Andy Warren.I know Geoff fairly well. He's an awesome guy. From southern USA, passionate, outspoken (blunt), absolute gentleman, dependable. Goes by the nick SQLCraftsman, which you may have encountered before.
Thanks all. If having a login to the pass site since sometime last fall counts as being a member before 5/1/2010 then I guess I make the cut. I now remember signing up to read something that was in an issue of the SQL Standard magazine that someone referenced to me last fall. I hate getting older and forgetting stuff like this.

What are peoples thoughts on the remaining 5 candidates? The only one I really know anything about is Andy Warren. Also if I join pass now do I get to vote or do you have to be a member for a particular amount of time? I'm really taking what Jack said to heart about being involved.
EDIT:
I went to sign up for PASS and appearantly my username already exists, a combination of my first and last name. I guess I've already signed up before.
I personally know 1 candidate very well (Andy), 2 fairly well (Allen and Geoff), 1 a little (Douglas), and 1 not at all (Mark). The ones I know are all good people, technically sound, and intelligent. I don't know that all those things mean that they'd all be good board members.
Andy and Douglas are running for re-election. So look at their track records. Andy's is easier to find than Douglas' because Andy blogs and Douglas doesn't. You have to look at the PASS blog to find out more about Douglas.
Allen has been very involved in PASS, particularly the Program Committee for the Summit. He knows how PASS works. You need to decide if that is good or bad.
Geoff is a bit of a wild-card. Not as much involvement at the national level but very involved locally and a regular SQLSaturday speaker. So far I've liked what he's said and done.
Mark is an unknown for me. I can only go based on what I see in on the elections site. I like his focus on chapters, but I'd rather see focus on improving current chapters before we add more.
For what it's worth Andy and Geoff most closely align with the platform I had planned on running on. So they will likely be 2 of my 3 picks. I really don't know on the third. Leaning toward Mark because I want change, but I don't know enough to say he'll be an advocate for change. I'll be watching to see how they all interact with the community and if they just come out and answer the questions.
Had Steve or I made the ballot as a 6th person it would have been easy to decide.

My first concern on viewing his platform is that he is wanting to double the membership and add 150 chapters. What have we done without him up to this point? Sheesh. Seems a little like he's just tossing out a big number to impress.

Thanks, all demo mistakes were not my fault.
I actually think I'll be doing some of this at #SQLSat52 in Denver.

Watched it. Quite an impressive product, and surely worth downloading the 28 day trial to play around with it.
He, and now at least I know what Steve's voice sounds like 🙂

You don't know my voice? I thought everyone did 😛 (http://sqlservercentral.mevio.com/)
I need to install it and play with it. Haven't done it so far since I was waiting on a VM, but I now have an afternoon project.:w00t:

I think we need to propose a new way to of selecting the candidates. I'd like to see a process where anyone that has been a PASS member for a set minimum of time (maybe 1 year, TBD) can be a candidate, as long as they have x (say 10-12, for example) PASS members supporting them.
Too open. It needs to be relatively well defined and needs to include some community work in addition to merely being a member and popular. And no, I don't think it needs to be the vaguely defined "volunteer work" that tripped up Steve. But something beyond simply being known.

Agreed. Geoff is a good guy. I'm just gobsmacked if I can figure out how he's more qualified than Steve. I'm not saying he isn't qualified, but somehow he is MORE qualified than Mr. Jones. That one just floors me.

You know, I'd be interested to know the order they interviewed in, sometimes there's an unconscious bias when you rank people like that, because you tend to start in the middle range so that you have room to rank others both higher and lower, and then adjust your scores for others according to what you THINK you ranked before. Hard to justify going back and actually changing a score for someone based on what you scored someone else, and consequently that can screw things up. that's been my experience when we tried to do that for interviewing anyway.
Not saying it did, no way to really tell that, just wondering.
