The DBA Boat

,

A reader sent me a note recently saying that they'd just purchased a boat and needed to name it. Being a DBA, they were thinking to pick some name that is database or SQL related. I thought that was kind of funny, though not something I'd do. We owned a boat at one point, but I can't even remember what we named it, or if we did. Not sure it really mattered to my wife and me.

It's funny how much people seem incorporate their work into the rest of their lives somehow. I've seen all sorts of web sites, blogs, license plates, even Twitter handles that use some part of your work as the name. So for this Friday, I thought I'd put a fun poll out there.

What would you name with a SQL or database name?

Here at Red Gate Publishing we have Phil Factor, probably the most widely known "name" of something that's database related.  In case you were wondering, there is a person acting as Phil Factor, but that's not really his name. 🙂

I've seen SQL-just-about-everything on Twitter, and while I considered picking a handle like that, I didn't. Years ago, back in 98, I chose way0utwest as a handle and I've stuck with that for years. It's not really SQL related, but it's who I am and I like having a single presence on the web.  I also called my own domain the dkranch, after my kids, Kyle and Delaney at the time. We added Kendall later, and I stuck with the same name.

Other than that, I haven't really come up with any great names on the web. SQLServerCentral wasn't mine, nor was Database Weekly. However I'm sure many of you have some unique ones and I'm looking forward to hearing what some of them are.
