SQLSaturday #77 Pensacola Florida Event Preview

,

Sometimes, even if I’m not attending, some SQLSaturdays stand out to me, and catch my interest. I guess it’s a hobby – follow it for sport.  So, here is a preview of #sqlsat77

Tomorrow, in sunny Pensacola, Florida, Saturday, June 4, 2011, Karla Landrum, (Blog|Twitter), Leader at Pensacola SQL Server Users Group (PSSUG), has organized, and put together a fantastic lineup of speakers and sponsors, that is sure to educate as well as entertain.  I suspect that the energy and enjoyment level will go off the charts!

I wanted to give a quick preview for those fortunate enough to be attending, and promise you will not be disappointed.  SQLSaturday #77, will be a great one!  This is its 3rd Annual SQLSaturday, and will be filled with learning, lunching, and laughter!

First off, this will be an especially sweet SQLSaturday for Karla, as she was recently appointed as a full time board member for the Professional Association for SQL Server(PASS)!  She’ll be involved with Chapters, Regional Mentors, and SQL Saturdays.  As a very active member of the SQL Server community, she has been organizing multiple SQLSaturdays and similar events for a while now. She calls herself the Community Pollinator, spreading the SQL Server way, everywhere.  So this event should put her over the top.

In the lead up to this excellent event, SQLPeople founder and MVP, Andy Leonard (Blog|Twitter) is having a pre-conference "A Day of SSIS” today, Friday, June 3, 2011.  Will he show up at #sqlsat77?  Gotta be there to find out!

A few notables will be presenting, such as (in no particular order) SQLSaturday co-founder Steve Jones (Blog|Twitter), Bill Pearson (Twitter), Kevin Boles, Aaron Nelson (Blog|Twitter), Ted Krueger (Blog|Twitter), Rodney Landrum (Blog), Thomas LeBlanc (Blog|Twitter), Wayne Sheffield (Twitter), and more!  (Apologize for those who fall under “and more”:-O.) I always do this to myself, so see the schedule for a full list of speakers and their session).

In addition, we will see Devin Knight, Shawn McGehee and Julie Smith present, Senior SQL experts in their own right.

One other quite intriguing session, which is sure to be jam-packed, just by the title alone, Pulp SQL!  Better bring your bullet-proof vests. A takeoff on the Pulp Fiction movie, here’s a brief description of Pulp SQL which will be presented by Jorge Segarra (aka SQLChicken) and Brad Schact (who looks a lot like Captain Kirk) of Pragmatic Works:

Stories, all have them. In this session Brad and Jorge will tell the tales of how SQL in shops can go horribly wrong, and how to properly go about doing it. This story will be told Tarrantino-style so prepare for some twists, characters and ninja-like tactics* to help you avoid your own SQL mistakes!*fight scenes may or may not break out.  I hear the theme music in my head, and the SQL Sermons:

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers”  - Jules from Pulp Fiction   Have mercy!
