Yesterday, my wife (twitter: @sherrilmcdonald) and I spoke at JAX Code Camp 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida. The event was well organized and gave me the idea that a lot of time was spent in making sure that nearly all of the 300 attendees (approx.) were well taken care of. Check-in for me and Sherri took about 30 seconds (if that)! Very well done Bayer and all those that helped put this event together. Another thing that I liked was that the schedule was pretty much posted everywhere you turned. That made it easy when I had to head toward the sessions that I was looking for (including mine!). I had a great time at the event and am sure that I was far from alone. There were a ton of great speakers like Andy Warren, Sara Hand, Stan Schultz and even Brian Knight. If you’re in Sarasota, FL, look up Sara Hand and Stan Shultz. I hear they really put on great professional talks as founders of BarCamp Sarasota.

At any rate, our talk on Reporting Services from A to Z went very well. With it actually starting immediately after lunch, we were able to get into the classroom 15 minutes before the session started. This allowed me not only to get set up, but also gave me plenty of time for questions BEFORE the session. This is a bit different than usual, but it was great to get a chance to really go deep into some questions. I typically have enough content in my sessions that I can’t really go too deep on some questions.  And this extra time allowed me to do that.

Oh… yeah… And when I walked into the classroom, all of the seats were already filled. As I was answering questions and getting to know some of the attendees, more piled in and were lined up along the sides, blocking the doors and again some were even sitting on the floor by the time the session started. This is the second year in a row that the turn out for my session yielded so many in the developer community. If you wanted to attend our session and there wasn’t enough space for you, we sincerely apologize. We wish that we could have spoken in the bigger room, but maybe next year.
